1817 SADDLE FACTORY MUSEUM
The oldest factory
building still standing in Kentucky was built by the Caldwell brothers
in 1817 and used as a saddle factory. The four story structure
includes a basement where the leather products were cured after the
tanning process; two stories of work area featuring the 25 pane
windows that allowed the natural light to illuminate the workspace; and
the attic which was home to 30 or more indentured servants and slaves
who provided the labor. Original handwriting and drawings made by the
indentured servants are still intact in the attic.
An exhibit focusing on the CIVIL WAR IN KENTUCKY and LINCOLN'S LOYALISTS IN LOGAN COUNTY is on display.
